Share your recipes with friends, family, or the world. Collaborate on recipe books and cook together in real-time.

Sharing Recipes

Share any recipe with others, whether they use momoChef or not.

Sharing Options

From any recipe page, click Share to see your options:

  • Copy Link: Get a shareable URL
  • Send to Friend: Share directly with momoChef users
  • Share Publicly: Add to community discovery
  • Export: Download as PDF or other formats

Public Share Links

Create a link that anyone can view:

  1. Click Share on a recipe
  2. Select Copy Link
  3. Share the link anywhere - email, text, social media
  4. Recipients can view the recipe without logging in

Managing Share Links

Control your shared content:

  • Disable: Turn off public access — the link stops working instantly
  • New link: Revoke the old one and generate a fresh link anytime
  • Links don't expire on their own — they work until you revoke them

Sharing to Social Media

Share recipes directly to:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter/X
  • Pinterest
  • Email

Tip: For family recipes you want semi-private, share the link only with relatives — it works until you revoke it.

Collaborative Recipe Books

Create shared recipe books where multiple people can add and edit recipes.

Creating a Shared Book

  1. Go to Recipes in the sidebar
  2. Click New Book
  3. Enter a name and description
  4. Click Create, then open the book and choose Manage Sharing to invite collaborators

Shared Book Features

  • Multiple Contributors: Invite friends and family to add recipes
  • Real-time Sync: Changes appear instantly for everyone
  • Goes Public Too: Personal books can be set public for the whole community

Use Cases for Shared Books

  • Family Cookbook: Collect generations of family recipes
  • Recipe Swap: Exchange favorites with friends
  • Meal Prep Group: Share meal prep recipes with roommates
  • Cooking Club: Build a collection with your cooking group
  • Event Planning: Collect recipes for potlucks and parties

Converting Existing Books

Already have a personal book you want to share? Any book becomes shared the moment you invite collaborators:

  1. Open the book
  2. Open the ••• menu and choose Manage Sharing
  3. Invite collaborators by email

Inviting Collaborators

Add people to your shared recipe books so they can contribute.

Sending Invitations

  1. Open your shared recipe book
  2. Click Manage Sharing
  3. Enter their email address
  4. Choose their permission (view — the default — or edit)
  5. Send the invitation — it arrives by email with a join link

Invitations to people without a momoChef account expire after 7 days. (Groups work differently: group admins can also create invite links that don't expire.)

Accepting Invitations

When you receive an invitation:

  • You will get a notification in the app
  • Click Accept to join the book
  • The book appears in your Recipes section

Pending Invitations

Manage sent invitations:

  • View pending invitations in book settings
  • Resend or cancel invitations
  • See when invitations expire

Permission Levels

Who can do what depends on where the book lives.

Personal Shared Books

Invite specific people by email, each with one of two permissions:

  • View: Can see all recipes in the book, but not change them
  • Edit: Can view, add, and edit recipes

The person who created the book keeps full control: inviting and removing members, and deleting the book.

Groups

Groups have three member roles:

  • Owner: Full control — create books, manage members, remove recipes (reversibly, for 30 days)
  • Admin: Manage books, approve contributions, moderate
  • Member: Browse everything and contribute to books that allow it

Each group book also sets who can contribute: everyone, with admin approval, or admins only.

Changing Permissions

  1. Open the shared book
  2. Click Manage Members
  3. Find the member and change their permission — or remove them
  4. Removed members lose access immediately

Tip: For family cookbooks, give everyone Edit so anyone can update recipes.

Collaborative Cooking (Premium)

Cook together in real-time with friends and family, even from different locations. This is a Premium feature.

Starting a Cooking Session

  1. Open any recipe
  2. Click Start Cooking to enter cooking mode
  3. Click Share Session
  4. Share the session code or link with others
  5. Everyone joins the same cooking session

Shared Session Features

  • Synced Progress: Everyone sees the same step, check-offs, and servings changes live
  • Timers: Start a timer and everyone sees it
  • Join Controls: The host sets who can join — a chosen recipe book, friends only, or anyone with the link (momochef.com/cook/<code>) — and can remove participants
  • Idle Check-ins: Sessions left idle ask "Still cooking?" instead of expiring silently

Use Cases

  • Long-distance Cooking: Cook together with family in different cities
  • Teaching: Walk someone through a recipe remotely
  • Party Prep: Coordinate cooking with multiple people in the same kitchen

See the Cooking Mode guide for more details.
